Part 2

An arousal spell? Devilish.” Vordea said, between wheezes of laughter. “I always knew you had it in you.”

“Hmph. Unrequited love and regrets suited her better.” Neptis pouted, finishing her drink. “I hope she enjoyed herself, though.”

“I know you didn’t spend so long tracking me down just to tell me about a prank you played on a former colleague.” Vordea said, her tone changing as she pulled the two of them out of phase of the rest of the tavern they were in. “You got something on your mind?”

“I had a conversation with Eigengrau and-” Neptis began.

“No.”

“Excuse me?”

“That’s between you and Eigen. The primals don’t interfere with each other’s affairs, and that’s final.”

“Fine. It was about my future apotheosis. Are you interested now?”

“So it’s actually going to happen, then?” Vordea asked, her bloody red eyes gleaming. “Oh yes, I’m interested now, little Godling. You’ve missed something important, though.”

“Oh?”

“Eigengrau sees a potential future. What she sees will only come to pass if everyone behaves like they always do. Merely giving you the knowledge that it could happen is enough to derail it.”

“Then when did she even tell me?”

“She’s testing you, like she does everyone she takes an interest in. Pity those the God of Death finds interesting, little girl.” Vordea said with a grim look on her face, her tentacles visible and twitching.

Neptis put down her empty cup. “While I don’t like the sound of that, you’re changing the subject. She told me something interesting, that I would take one of your purviews.”

“Yes. Which one? Not telling.”

“Why not?”

“More fun that way. Listen kid, you already know you might become a God, what more info do you want?” Vordea asked, poking Neptis in the stomach. “Stop trying to push your luck, just go out and enjoy yourself, and if the time comes, it does.”

Neptis chuckled and smiled slightly in response. Motioning for another beer, Vordea nodded and brought them back into phase with the tavern, and they resumed drinking. They drank for many more hours in silence, exchanging knowing glances with each other from time to time.

Vordea was seemingly ignored despite being in her true form inside a busy tavern, thanks to a skill she called ‘a desire to not be seen’. It drove Neptis mad trying to figure out how it worked, and could only put it down to the power of a God.

Many hours later, Neptis stood, paid for her drinks, waved goodbye to Vordea and simply left without another word spoken between them. Vordea smirked before vanishing, leaving behind a puddle of black ink on the floor, to the confusion of the guests of the tavern.
