Part 3

Later that same day, near midnight, Sirene was waiting impatiently when Eigengrau arrived at the Inn. She was actually quite cross with her master for once, and simply grabbed her and dragged her out to the magical circle outside, much to Eigengrau's confusion, who was curious as to what this was about.

"Master, the sword." Sirene said, crossing her arms angrily. "You can't leave dangerous, potentially deadly, divine artifacts laying about where any idiot can touch them."

"Ah." Eigengrau stated. Well this was an embarrassment. Everybody had completely forgotten about the sword, it seemed, and there hadn't been a meeting in months due to Vordea's antics, so Vaust didn't have a chance to bring it up. "I will deal with it. A moment."

Sirene watched as Eigengrau walked up to the sword and struggled to pull it out of the ground for several minutes, before she stopped.

"Having a problem?" Sirene gloated.

"It does not recognize me." Eigengrau stated. "We need Agbus. A moment."

Eigengrau left, and much to Sirene's surprise, did not immediately return. After several minutes, she decided to do something dumb.

"Well, Master can always rescue me." Sirene said, grinning, as she grabbed Orenmir. The sword briefly glowed followed by the ground exploding, destroying the magical circle and throwing both Sirene and Orenmir far into the air. "Well shit."

Sirene saw she was going to land in the graveyard, and prayed that she didn't hit her parent's headstones. To her relief, but also confusion, it felt like somebody was pulling on her to slow her down, until she gently landed in front of their graves. The wind briefly kicked up, but otherwise nothing seemed to be out of place.

"Oh, I get it." Sirene said out loud. "Thanks mom." She whispered.

The grass around their graves swayed slightly in response. Sirene patted the 2 headstones, before walking back over to where the magical circle was, sword in hand. The sword appeared to be trying to drain mana from her, but it wasn't working, which intrigued her. Arriving back in front of the inn, Eigengrau and Sargon were waiting for her.

"Apprentice, what did you do?" Eigengrau asked, noting Sirene's singed robes, and the fact she was holding Orenmir.

"Well, you were taking some time." Sirene started, and gestured at the sword in her left hand. "So I decided to grab it and see what would happen. Well apparently the sword didn't care for that very much."

"What exactly happened, Sirene?" Sargon asked, shaking his head.

"It glowed, then the ground exploded."

"Glowed which colour?" Eigengrau asked.

"Does it matter?"

"Yes, actually. If it glowed white, we have a problem." Eigengrau flatly monotoned. "Did it glow white?"

"Yeah, it did." Sirene said, rubbing the back of her head.

"Always the troublemaker. This is what I deal with, Sargon."

Sargon laughed heartily in response. "Is she really worth it, Eigen?"

"Make no mistake, she is." Eigengrau answered immediately. "But it appears the sword has bonded to you."

"Wait, you said you were going to get Agbus." Sirene said, interrupting Eigengrau.

"He was... busy." Eigengrau said, very carefully. "So I had Sargon come. Back to the matter of the sword."
