Amy Waters Part 3
Day One Hundred and Forty-Eight
They were still more than 2 weeks away from the island the Mermaids had pointed out on the maps, but they were completely sure they saw a recent construction on the island. For the first time in 3 months, Amy had hope in her heart, and not despair.
"I'm coming, Edwin." She whispered, as she watched the islands pass by from the ship's bow.
Captain Miller and Mr. Robson looked at Amy from the wheel, and Miller couldn't help but smile.
"May we find more than bones." He said quietly, to which Mr. Robson nodded in reply.
Day One Hundred and Fifty-Nine
"Miss Waters, the island is in sight. Do you want to look?" Mr. Robson said, offering the telescope to Amy at the wheel.
Amy nodded and took the telescope, peering through it. She could see some faint black smoke rising from the island, too little to be a forest fire. Was he really alive?
"I see smoke." She said, and Mr. Robson nodded.
"Aye, I saw it too. Perhaps Edwin is alive after all." Mr. Robson replied.
Amy handed the telescope back to Mr. Robson and walked down to the main deck of the ship. The fact there was smoke meant he was still well enough to make fire for cooking. It certainly wasn't for heat, not at this time of day, so he was eating well enough at least.
She was also worried about his mental state when they finally found him. He'd been on his own for months now, how would he react? He was never the type to get into fights, but what would 4 months alone do to a man? Would he be a feral creature, more beast than man?
Day One Hundred and Sixty-One
At last, the Kraken's Revenge arrived at the island, to a most curious sight. There was a man on the beach, surrounded by dozens of birds, and he was fighting them. He seemed to be in a genuine rage state, and several birds lay dead at his feet already.
"Get the rowboat! Now!" Miller shouted, as they scrambled to prepare it. "Mr. Robson, Amy, Furman, with me!"
As the rowboat hurried to the shore, Edwin noticed it out of the corner of his eye. Was he dreaming? Did someone find him at long last? Well, no time like the present.
"Ignis!" He shouted, and more than a dozen birds burst into flame, dropping to the ground as he ran for the water. "Ignis! Ignis! Ignis!" Before the rowboat was even close to the shore, Edwin reached it by swimming, and hauled himself in. "Go! Now!"
Not wasting any time, Furman and Mr. Robson started rowing, joined by Edwin and Miller.
"Edwin! You're alive!" Amy shouted, overjoyed.
"Pleasantries later, Amy. Those birds are evil." Edwin said, rowing as hard as he could.
As they reached the ship, Edwin spotted some birds still following, and stopped rowing to stand up and continue to cast fire spells at them. As the rowboat was being hauled up, Miller started shouting orders.
"Get ready to leave! Full sails! Magi-Jets to maximum output!"
