Part 2
Hours later, she stopped on a deserted road, far from any city or town. It was at that point she realized she wasn't breathing, or even tired. Her memory since she woke up was crystal clear, and she could recall with perfect clarity how far she ran. But that was impossible, wasn't it? She couldn't have run that far.
"What am I?" She said out loud.
"Something neither living nor dead." Eigengrau stated, reappearing at last, now that the girl was alone. "A new kind of spirit."
"You again." The girl said, looking Eigengrau in the face.
"I hate suicides, Tess. So I had an idea." Eigengrau said, sitting on the fence on the side of the road. "Yes, an ethereal, unnerving herald of death. That is what you are. Observe." Eigengrau pulled a hand mirror out of her robe and offered it to Tess, who took it with some suspicion on her face.
Tess looked in the mirror and was shocked. Her hair was white and thin, her skin a sickly pale colour, but her eyes scared her. She had no iris, just a pinprick pupil surrounded by white. She nearly dropped the mirror, thrusting it back into Eigengrau's hands. Tess was silent for several minutes before you spoke.
"Why." Tess said, looking down.
"You rejected the most precious gift of all, Tess. A life is not something given easily, and you left your parents to mourn two losses for selfish reasons." Eigengrau said, stoic and emotionless.
"What worth is there in living a life with no meaning?" Tess asked, her hands balled up into fists.
"There will be no beyond for you, not until you learn to appreciate life. That is your punishment. That is the punishment of all suicides." Eigengrau answered dispassionately. "Go then, banshee." Eigengrau began, naming the type of spirit she made. "Go and learn to appreciate what you gave up. Feel the geis carved on your soul, and herald death."
Eigengrau pointed down the road, towards the next town, and slowly faded away.
Tess tried to shout in anger, but all that came out was the same shriek that alerted her parents. Instead she stood there angrily for several minutes, before she found herself walking down the road.
"To hell with her." Tess said quietly, to her surprise. Maybe she just couldn't shout? She tested it as she walked, and it seemed if she tried to speak above a normal speaking voice, it just came out as a wail. "What did she do to me?"
