Part 3

Eigengrau decided she better tell the other Gods about her new creations before they discovered them on their own, so at the next meeting, she surprised them all by taking the floor.

"I have an announcement to make." Eigengrau stated blandly, her face betraying no emotion.

That alone got everyone's attention. Sargon and Vordea stopped arm wrestling, and Agbus woke up from his nap.

"I made a new type of spirit." Eigengrau continued. "I have called it the banshee, and much like the demons belong to Vordea, they belong to me alone."

This got Vordea's interest. She calmly walked up to Eigengrau, and studied her face for several seconds. Seemingly satisfied, she turned around and went back and sat down.

"Spirits made from the souls of the dead. Interesting choice, Eigen." Vordea said. "You going to tell them or should I?"

Sargon stood immediately upon hearing these words. "Eigengrau, what have you done?" He asked, his voice calm but serious. "If you've made slaves..."

"Suicides." Eigengrau stated. "For giving up the most precious gift of all, they are condemned."

"I'm listening." Sargon said, arms crossed.

"Vordea. She will explain." Eigengrau stated, yielding the floor to Vordea, who nodded and walked back up front.

"If you insist." Vordea said, flashing a grin. "It's a punishment. They have compulsions carved into them, to seek out the soon to die. Only when they appreciate life do they get to move on."

"Why?" Zalas asked.

"That is a personal reason, Zalas." Eigengrau responded. They didn't need to know about Sirene's issues.

The rest of the meeting continued without incident, but afterwards, Vordea motioned for Eigengrau to come over. She slithered her tentacles around Eigengrau and pulled the both of them into the pocket dimension she called her home.

"This is about Sirene, isn't it?" Vordea asked.

Eigengrau nodded silently, red tears in her eyes. "I can't do anything for her, no matter how hard I try."

Vordea blinked. Eigengrau used a contraction in her speech. She must be really torn up, she thought. Vordea wasn't sure what to say, so she simply held Eigengrau in a warm embrace. Eigengrau cried for hours.
