It took them less than a day to get back to Palisade Bay, Emma practically running the entire way. Harrod was waiting at the town gates for them when they returned.

“Harrod!” Emma shouted. “My grandfather-” she paused, out of breath.

“Easy lass. So you two felt it as well? Jakob is fine, in no small part thanks to Heather. She saved his life.” Harrod said, placing a hand on Emma’s shoulder.

“What happened, Harrod?” Cricket asked. “Did the chain?”

“Yes, it exploded. Jakob was in his study as usual at the time. Heather just happened to be enjoying a morning coffee with Jakob when it happened. You’ll have to ask the small lass herself, she’s with Jakob in his study right now. Go on then, both of you.” Harrod shoved Emma on her way.
