Part 1

It was a cool late summer morning, and the sun reflected off the surface of the lake. There was no wind in the air that day, and as a result the surface of the lake had a mirror finish. A rough road traversed one edge of the lake, roughly following the shoreline of the large lake. Just off the road, there was a man fishing alone. He had been at it for several hours with no luck, and was just about to pack up and head on his way, when he spotted a pair of eyes staring at him from under the water.

The face of a beautiful woman with long hair stared back at him from beneath the water’s surface. He got up, and cautiously got closer. Her head slowly came above the water, and she seemed curious about him. Just as he got within arm’s reach of her, her arms darted out, grabbed his leg and pulled him under. Before he could even shout, he was gone, and all that remained was his supplies on the edge of the lake, and an abandoned fishing pole. Soon the ripples of the lake stilled, and no evidence remained that anything untoward had happened at all.

This same scene played itself out several more times at the same Lake, until it gained a reputation for people mysteriously vanishing if they lingered near the Lake, leaving behind only their belongings. The tales eventually made their way to Palisade Bay, and into a certain dockside Inn. It was only then did someone who recognized the problem finally heard of it.
