Part 2

After lunch, the three of them retired to Jakob’s study on the ground floor. It was full of books from all around the world, along with a few of the artifacts he found in his adventures. James noticed a broken chain giving off a soft white glow in a clear box on a shelf. He walked over to look at it, but it was slightly too high to get a good look.

“Ah, now that is an interesting item, James.” Jakob said as he stuffed his pipe. “Legend holds that it’s from the binding spell that shackles the Goddess Vordea.”

“Have you ever met any Gods, Sir?” James asked him, turning back to face him.

“None that ever cared to tell me.” Jakob replied, with a chuckle. “You know, your father actually joined me on a couple adventures in his youth.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Before we get to that though, I have a surprise for you.” Jakob reached into the pocket of his smoking jacket and pulled out a certificate. “Neville had me hold on to this after our last adventure. It’s a deposit slip for the Imperial Bank.”

“Wait, do you mean...” James asked, as he read the certificate.

“Aye. Your inheritance. Neville knew he made enemies back home, so it was with me for safe keeping. He told me if anything ever happened to him, you’d end up here eventually. Seems he wasn’t wrong, the sly fox.”

“A strange lady helped me get here.” James said as he held the certificate tightly.

“Hmm. I suppose who she was doesn’t really matter, does it?” Jakob asked, pipe in his mouth. “In any case, the 3 of us will travel to Tel Hazan in a few weeks so you can get some of that money moved up here.”

“Really grandpa? We get to go to Tel Hazan?” Emma asked excitedly.

“Yes Emma, I know you love my stories, so let’s have an adventure of our own.”

“You’re the best grandpa!” Emma said as she hugged him tightly.

“Now then, the 2 of you, since you’re here James, I’ll tell you about when I first met your father, and where all that money you’ve got in Tel Hazan came from.”
