Part 3

Eigengrau and Agbus entered the room after Vordea sent Rebecca and her party away, and looked around.

"Where are we, exactly?" Eigengrau asked. "I followed the directions to get here, but this does not feel right."

"Carcosa." Vordea said, smiling. "Well, an imitation of it I have hidden deep underground."

"Dear, why do you have a replica of Carcosa buried underground?" Agbus asked. Vordea shrugged in response, and Agbus shook his head.

"So Saffron was still lurking after all these years. Intriguing." Eigengrau said, looking around.

"I almost didn't believe it either until Vordea described the unique presence an unborn soul has." Agbus added.

Eigengrau paced. What occurred should have been impossible. Saffron's soul should have never existed, she was leftover detritus from the previous kalpa, she should have become yet another building block for Carcosa. One of the primals must have been responsible for this, but which one? Could it have been? This requires more investigation.

"Vordea, I think it might have been him." Eigengrau eventually said.

"Who?" Agbus asked.

"The God of Time." Eigengrau answered. "I think he intervened."

"Darling aren't you the God of Time?" Vordea asked.

"All 3 of us know that's bullshit we tell everyone else. No, you know who I mean. The blank slate." Eigengrau answered, her frost pulsating.

"It's not like we can ask him." Agbus offered, shrugging. "But that was Saffron, so I guess he did."

"Great, more mysteries. I'll talk to King Zarfangal, see if he wants to shed any light on this before my fists shed light on his organs." Vordea said, cracking her knuckles.

"Do not kill him, the story of Rebecca Ashe still needs him." Eigengrau said impassively.

"Oh?" Vordea asked.

"If we continue on the shape we are currently on, I think you will be most interested in Rebecca's story. You have already seen the potential of her magic first hand."

"You mean our little dragon soul?" Vordea asked. "You got me hooked, Eigen. Spill it."

"Imagine an empire built not on the concept of justice, but on that of order. Unimaginably cruel by the mortal standards of today, but completely ordered. Spanning the breadth of Southern Karand." Eigengrau explained, smiling.

"You mean it?" Vordea asked, her face flushing. "I didn't know she had it in her. You know how much I love evil empires, Eigen. Gilnas is far too good aligned for my tastes, even with their rus garrison."

"Pull your punches with the dragon king, and all will be fine." Eigengrau stated. She didn't want to encourage Vordea, there was enough eldritch monsters as a result of her mating experiments as is, and getting her in the mood was a bad idea.
