The Mithril Count Part 1
Syndra and Ryul had been planning for what felt like days but was actually only mere hours. He had been going over various allies Syndra could expect when he mentioned an odd name.
"Wait, stop Ryul." Syndra said.
"Yes ma'am?" He asked.
"Who's The Mithril Count?"
"Thought you might be interested in him. He's the expert in modern artillery. His guns can hit targets from at least a dozen leagues in his latest tests. I think he'll be a good one to make contact with first.
"Yes I agree. Send him a letter, wait no. I'll go visit him personally."
"Ma'am?"
"I want to know I can trust him, Captain. If I can't trust a man he's of no use to me." Syndra said, standing up. "Where can I find him?"
"He's in Faenluna, because it turns out nobody likes cannons the size of dragons constantly going off." Ryul said with a grin. "I think you'll like him."
"Of course he's in the middle of nowhere." Syndra said with a laugh. "Where else would a mad scientist be?"
Syndra made preparations to leave immediately. Since she didn't exactly need protection her entourage, if you could even call it that, was limited to two Rangers, Cithrel and Lhoris. Ryul had insisted on choosing the two rangers to go with Syndra personally, and Syndra already knew the Captain well enough that he wasn't going to back down from this, so she relented.
As she stood outside the barracks, she felt like Ryul was fussing over the three of them like a parent, but she could understand his fear. Powerful mage or not, she was still the only heir to the throne save Taenya, who was most certainly not nobility material. Perhaps she would make him Captain of the Palace guard when this was all over. He would certainly enjoy it.
"I'll be off then, Captain Ryul. Look to the skies for my return." Syndra said. The snow was still falling, of course, but she had calmed to the point where it was no longer accumulating on the ground.
"Please be careful, ma'am." Captain Ryul replied, before saluting. "Rangers, come back with the Princess or don't come back at all."
"Yes Sir!" The two Rangers replied, saluting the Captain.
Syndra clicked her tongue, and she began to float, along with the two Rangers. With another click, the 3 of them blew away as if taken by a gust of wind.
"I'll never get used to her magic." Captain Ryul said out loud to no one, before turning and re-entering the barracks.
