Part 3

After spending several hours torturing worthless wastes of sapience, Xellma remembered the other reason she sought out Xalgaman.

"I need to attend a funeral, Xalgaman." Xellma said, as they continued walking through the grassy plain.

"Oh? whose?" Xalgaman asked, interested. "More importantly, where?"

"Mine. In the Ashen Empire." Xellma answered.

"Attending your own funeral? Classy. Why?"

"Xolarand gave me the idea. To cement my legacy as an evil bitch. Imagine the Demon Queen Xellma shows up at the funeral of the Ashen Empress? What will people assume of my mortal self?" Xellma answered, smiling unsettlingly again.

"Ashen Empress? Fuck me, you're Dark Imperium?" Xalgaman asked with shock.

"Dark Imperium?" Xellma quizzed Xalgaman, unfamiliar with yet another demon nickname.

"Apologies, that’s the demon nickname for Empress Rebecca Ashe." Xalgaman explained. "I always knew you’d make for a great demon, but the Demon Queen? Good on ya, kid."

"Back to the question." Xellma answered, steering the question away from herself. "I need a mortal disguise, as while I look stunningly beautiful as a demon, I don't want to attract immediate attention from the Ashen Fist."

"Ma'am, with all due respect, you're far too powerful for disguises. King Xolarand smells like brimstone from a hundred paces. I give off heat like a Dwarven desert. I can't even imagine what your effect will be topside." Xalgaman said, laughing hoarsely.

"Regardless, I'd like to know how to human, or at least human adjacent." Xellma insisted. Why were demons so frustrating to work with?

"You're not gonna be able to ditch the horns, so I hope you like hats if you plan to disguise yourself." Xalgaman said, pointing at her head.

"So how do I do it?" Xellma asked. Why do demons never get to the point?

"Like all demonic magic, you think it and it happens." Xalgaman started to explain.

"Oh, I'm familiar with that. My Divine Creation magic worked the same way."

Xellma stopped walking and pictured Rebecca in her 20s. There was only one person left on all of Karand who'd even recognize that form with Count Titus dead. She felt herself shrink quite a bit, and the weight on her shoulders lessened.

"How do I look?" Xellma asked, with a voice an entire octave higher.

"Good first try kid. You forgot to picture some clothing, though!" Xalgaman guffawed with laughter, doubled over.

Xellma looked down and to her dismay she was stark naked. Quickly, she pictured some clothing and they popped onto her body, to her relief. Conjuring up a full length mirror, she checked out her mortal disguise. A spitting image of Rebecca Ashe in her youth, with the exception of 2 curled black horns emerging from her head. Looking at her hands, they looked quite normal compared to the near talons she possessed in her demon form, and her eyes were rather normal.

"Oh, this will do quite well. I hope Hamlin recognizes me, that will make it much more fun." Xellma said, posing in the mirror. "With that being said, I still have questions."
