The actual joke: Everybody goes to Hell, you just only get tortured if you think you should be. Those who don't think they should be tortured can go to whatever afterlife they want, after being judged by King Xolarand and giving him a defense for their life at the gates of hell. The truly wicked become demons, which is the eventual fate of Rebecca Ashe. Syndra Valmaris was going to become a demon before she damned herself at her own judgement.
